Cysts and benign tumors of the jaws

Beautiful Young Woman

Due to the absence of swelling fever or pain, cysts and benign tumors of the jaws are usually diagnosed as a random finding during a routine dental examination.

Loss of sensation in the lower lip, dilation of the gums, dentures that have stopped fitting properly, or displacement of teeth serve as warning signs for these tumors.

Surgical treatment of cysts and benign tumors in the jaws begins with appropriate X-rays and examination by an Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon.

Sometimes, when the diagnosis of the lesion is not unequivocal, a biopsy from the lesion is recommended. This treatment is usually performed under local anesthesia, and a sample of the findings is taken to be examined under a microscope.  The composition of the cells that make up the lesion will determine the diagnosis and the treatment will be planned accordingly.

The good news is that most benign tumors and cysts in the jaws have scientifically based surgical protocols.

While any tumor that has appeared once may reappear, it can be generalized and said that most benign tumors in the jaws do not return after proper treatment.
