The use of platelet concentration in improving the healing process

PRF = Platelet Rich Fibrin

There is no doubt that postoperative blood supply is one of the most important components for proper healing of the treatment area.

The first cells that are released from the bloodstream and begin the healing process are called platelets.

These cells release various components responsible for wound healing.

In recent years, blood concentration has been increasingly used to enrich the platelet concentration from that normally found in the bloodstream.

The idea behind this concentration is that the more platelets there are in the treatment area the better the healing abilities of the operated site.

There are various ways to produce a high concentration of platelets from the bloodstream.

The technique we use in our clinic involves the use of venous blood which we collect in vitro (similar to a blood test tube). The sample is transferred to a special device that separates the platelets from the blood - a process that takes several minutes.

The separated platelets are implanted at the surgical site and allow for faster, higher quality healing, and better treatment results.

Is the use of platelets safe?

Yes. The platelets are released from the patient's blood and therefore it is not possible to transmit viruses.

Does platelet use reduce pain after treatment?

Although there are reports in the medical literature that postoperative pain and swelling are lower when using concentrated platelets in the treatment field, the issue has yet to be unequivocally proven.

Is it necessary to concentrate platelets in any surgical treatment?

No. Platelet concentration is intended for certain procedures and is not required in any surgical procedure. It is important to note that this is a method that accompanies treatment and it cannot replace the doctor's training, his experience, or the basic surgical skill.
