Instructions for treatments under IV sedation

Enclosed are some instructions related to IV sedation.  We urge you to read and follow them precisely.

• It is essential that you refrain from eating or drinking six hours before your scheduled procedure.  If necessary, clear water can be consumed up to three hours beforehand.  Failure to fast will necessitate rescheduling the appointment.

• Avoid alcoholic beverages the day of your sedation.

• Do not stop any medications you take regularly - unless instructed otherwise by the anesthesiologist.

• Smoking is prohibited for at least six hours before your appointment.

• Driving after sedation is prohibited.  Please have an adult with a valid driver’s license accompany you.

• We recommend you shower before your appointment.

• You will want to wear comfortable loose clothing.  Please make sure your sleeves can be folded above the elbow area.

• Do not wear contact lenses or lipstick.

• If you suffer from a cold, a stomach ache or fever we will have to postpone your appointment.

• Any important decisions (such as signing a contract) should be deferred until twenty-four hours after the treatment.
